Secretary
Vanessa Fonseca-Chávez is an ASU alum and a first-generation college student. She is an Associate Professor of English at ASU Poly campus where she teaches courses on the U.S. Southwest and U.S. West, and Chicanx and Indigenous literatures and cultures. Her research focuses on how rural communities understand and narrate their sense of place. She is currently working with rural communities in eastern Arizona. She is the author of Colonial Legacies in Chicana/o Literature and Culture: Looking through the Kaleidoscope (2020) and the co-editor of three books.
Since 2021, Vanessa has served as the Associate Dean of Inclusion and Student Success in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts.
Vanessa has been a member of CLFSA for eight years and appreciates the support the organization has given to students, faculty, and staff across ASU. The organization has a long and rich history in creating a sense of belonging for Chicanx communities, and uplifts the ASU Charter in every way. She is looking forward to serving CLFSA in her role as Secretary.
